Scientists at the University of Montreal engaged in a study on the effects of pornography have stumbled upon an unexpected finding, says the Ottawa Citizen.

Aiming to compare the views of men in their 20s who viewed porn with those who didn’t, the scientists encountered a major obstacle in their efforts: they could not find a single man who had not viewed porn, throwing the fervent claims of millions of boyfriends into doubt.

“We started our research seeking men in their 20s who had never consumed pornography,” said Professor Simon Louis Lajeunesse. “We couldn’t find any.”

Discarding the original aim, the scientists focused on the habits of pornography enjoying young men, finding that 90% of consumption was internet-based and that single men enjoyed pornography three times a week, for 40 minutes at a time. Despite those sincere denials, those in a relationship watched porn 1.7 times a week for 20 minutes at a time.

Prof Lajeunesse dismissed any possible negative effect on men’s attitudes to relationships, saying “Pornography hasn’t changed their perception of women or their relationship, which they all want to be as harmonious and fulfilling as possible.”

“Not one subject had a pathological sexuality,” he added. “In fact, all of their sexual practices were quite conventional.
