The grieving Army mother who humbled the Prime Minister last night accepted his apology for mis-spelling her dead son’s name.
Gordon Brown finally admitted he had made mistakes in his condolence letter to Jacqui Janes after her son Jamie was killed in Afghanistan.
The PM also revealed he has ordered a full report on his death – after Jacqui told him her son could have been saved if extra Army helicopters had been available.
Mr Brown’s apology ended 48 hours of uproar since The Sun first revealed the mistakes in his well-meaning but badly handwritten note.
Mr Brown later telephoned Jacqui about the letter, only to end up in a 13-minute argument with her.
Yesterday, in an emotional press conference broadcast live on TV, Mr Brown insisted: “The last thing on my mind was to cause any offence to Jacqui Janes. I have apologised to her for any mistakes that have been made.”
